This collaboration, combined with Delta's superior expertise in power supply design and its cutting-edge technologies for efficient energy management, allows for a substantial reduction in size and energy savings compared to conventional adapters.
Thanks to the integration of the EcoGaN™ power stage IC, Delta's AC adapters for MSI products can deliver high power output and maintain peak power for extended periods. This ensures a stable power supply even under heavy loads, typical of high-performance gaming environments.
As gaming laptops continue to evolve with increasingly powerful GPUs and CPUs, their power consumption is also on the rise. This trend demands AC adapters capable of delivering high power while simultaneously meeting user expectations for portability through miniaturization.
GaN devices, known for their low on-resistance and high-speed switching characteristics, are attracting attention for their ability to improve power supply efficiency and reduce the size of peripheral components such as inductors. ROHM's power stage integrated circuit combines a 650V GaN HEMT, a gate driver, protection functions, and peripheral components into a single package, allowing for maximizing the performance of the GaN HEMT simply by replacing conventional silicon MOSFETs.
Red Lin, General Manager of the Edge Computing Power business unit at Delta Electronics, Inc., said,
“The combination of Delta’s next-generation power supply solutions and ROHM’s EcoGaN™ power stage integrated circuit has enabled high power delivery, optimal energy efficiency, and appropriate miniaturization in this AC adapter for gaming laptops. We are proud that this solution has been adopted in products from MSI, a globally recognized brand. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with ROHM, a company with extensive experience in GaN technology, to provide customers with Delta’s next generation of energy-efficient power solutions.”
Satoru Nate, Division Manager, Power GaN Solution and Product Development Division, LSI Development Headquarters, ROHM Co., Ltd., said
, “Delta Electronics and ROHM have a long-standing collaboration in the field of power systems. We are delighted that this adoption reflects the successful integration of Delta’s power design expertise with ROHM’s power device development, manufacturing, and analog power supply technologies. Looking ahead, our goal is to contribute to the miniaturization and efficiency of power supplies not only in gaming PCs, but also in servers, industrial equipment, and automotive applications.”
HEMT power stage integrated circuits
provide an optimal solution for all electronic systems requiring high power density and efficiency. A GaN HEMT and a gate-drive controller optimized to maximize the GaN HEMT's performance are included in a single package. With a wide input voltage range of 2.5 V to 30 V, it can be combined with any driver IC. This IC is designed to fit most existing drivers, so it can also be used to replace traditional discrete power switches, such as super-connect MOSFETs.
ROHM's EcoGaN™
is ROHM's brand for GaN devices that contribute to energy conservation and miniaturization by maximizing GaN's characteristics to achieve lower power consumption in applications, smaller peripheral components, and simpler designs requiring fewer parts.
